Pulse width modulation of a type designated as single channel is established as the optimal controller. The DC torquer and an epicyclic transmission are selected as optimal, on the basis of power, weight, size, reliability and performance. The optimization study is divided into three distinct phases torquers and transmissions, which together form the actuators, and controllers. The purpose of this study is the determination of an optimal gimbal actuator for large double gimbal control moment gyros.
